Baxters of Ufford

Ufford
Ufford is situated between the towns of Woodbridge and Wickham Market, on the river Deben. The Church is dedicated to St Mary of the Assumption built in the eleventh century out of flint and stone. The parish registers date back to 1538.

John Baxter (1644 – 1720)
I suspect that John was the son of John and Joan Baxter, baptized the 14 Apr 1644, Sutton. John senior, was buried Mar 1680/1 Sutton and possibly his wife the Widow Baxter buried 27th October 1683, Ufford.
Marriage
John married Abigail Sacker (c. 1648 – 1737). From the parish registers of Ufford:
“Johnnes Baxter and Abigail Sacker nupti … Octobris anno ? 1669”
Children
John and Abigail had the following:
| Baptized | Name | Comment | Where |
| Jul 1670 | John | Son of John and Abigail | Parish Church of Ufford |
| 1672 | John | Son of John and Abigail | Parish Church of Ufford |

| 09 Nov 1684 | Mary | Daughter of John and Abigail | Parish Church of Ufford |
| 30 Jan 1686 | Abigail | Daughter of John and Abigail | Parish Church of Ufford |
Will Information
John was the executor of his kinsman, another John Baxter’s will. This will was written in 1699 and Kinsman John was described as being of Rendham, although I believe he was buried in near by Marlesford, in 1700. There are two burials in Marlesford, Margery Baxter buried 06 Feb 1696, wife of John and John Baxter buried 15 Aug 1700. Kinsman John died without a male heir so his property was past on to John of Ufford. Which explains the family connection to Rendham.
